I have been active in the real estate business for over 25 years, working in both the Richmond and Charlottesville, VA markets. Having experience in both restoring old homes and building new ones, I understand the complexities of both the purchasing and the construction process. In Glenmore I have had the opportunity to represent three of the top builders in the Charlottesville area, and gained extensive knowledge of new construction. I particularly enjoy showing newcomers around the area and sharing my knowledge of local history and Charlottesville culture. In real estate, the greatest rewards for me are the friendships I maintain with my clients well after the purchase or sale of their home has closed. If repeat business is a good measure of a Realtor's success, this explains why I have been one of top producers in the Charlottesville area for the last thirteen years. I was born in New Orleans and moved to Virginia in 1966. I attended St. Mary’s in Raleigh, NC and Randolph Macon in Ashland. I got my start in new construction real estate in Richmond in the 1980s, and moved back to Charlottesville to continue my career. I am married to Jim Magerfield, co-owner of Gibson-Magerfield General Contractors which specializes in the building and restoration of residential properties. Jim is a Virginia native and graduate of both Woodberry Forest School (1969) and the University of Virginia (1973). We have three daughters: Austin (St. Anne’s-Belfield School and Davidson College graduate) who lives in Richmond and works for Wachovia Trust, Alex (Chatham Hall and Hollins University graduate) who is currently in the CNL Graduate Nursing Program at UVA, and Lawren (Western Albemarle High School and University of Virginia graduate) who teaches at Virginia Institute of Autism in Charlotesville. In my spare time I enjoy antiques, skiing, cycling, running, and spending time in the garden, and am a member of Farmington Country Club and the Charlottesville Contemporary Club. My professional distinctions include ABR,SRES; Certified New Home Specialist, Member CAAR, VAR, and NAR, REALTOR.

Selling Your Home >Selling and What Really Works
If you are trying to sell your home quickly, some real estate agents may recommend that you offer a bonus to the agent who brings in the buyer. They feel that a monetary incentive will cause an agent to push your house over the one down the street. Do such bonuses work?
You cannot expect a bonus to sell an overpriced house or overcome housekeeping shortcomings that detract from your home's overall appeal. If your house looks great and is priced right, offering a bonus to the real estate agent could help it sell more quickly. Agents earn their reputations by helping people find homes that they love. When deciding which homes to show prospective buyers, their decision will be based on whether the home will meet their needs. If the Multiple Listing Service indicates that a bonus is being offered, it could encourage more agents to preview the house and result in more showings.
